BASS Approved: Beyonce at “Life is But a Dream” Premiere

Beyonce Life is But a Dream Premiere

Maybe it was because she wanted the premiere of her hotly anticipated documentary “Life is But a Dream” to garner more attention, that Beyonce waited to gives us the look that most expected to see Sunday night at the Grammy Awards.

Call me crazy, but I think Beyonce specifically wore a non-traditional outfit to the Grammys and then wore this stunning number to the premiere of her documentary. No one’s really talking about what Beyonce wore to the Grammys.

(I believe the best dressed at the 2013 Grammys was Kelly Rowland, followed by Katy Perry, followed by Rihanna. Honorable mentions include Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Lopez.)

But they will talk about this dress honey.

And that’s what Beyonce and her team of marketing goons want.

Let’s get into this dress, which is a perfect combination of showing off a lot without showing off too much. This dress is revealing, but I think it looks elegant because of the dress’ peek-a-boo nature. By that I mean we only see pieces of flesh through the sheer fabric. The opaque fabric is in all the right places.

The neckline also contributes to the elegance of this look. Beyonce is no stranger to a plunging neckline, but the high-neckline offsets the fact that we can see her entire chest. Her hair covers the large key-hole at the back of the dress, so we barely can see her back.

Had this dress had a plunging neckline, it still would have been elegant because of the bottom of the dress which flares out. If it were short, like this look Beyonce pulled off at the 2009 MTV awards, the outfit would have been sexy. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Moreover, the color of the dress is very fitting for the event and I am in love with the jewels. Had this dress been another color, it would have been serving me high school prom.

Her hair is perfect and her face is beat.

Oh and the booty is perfectly perched. #that is all

I’m Feeling Wet n Wild

Wet n Wild Lipsticks

The title of this post is very misleading. This is not a Girls Gone Wild post. It’s about makeup (but you knew that).

I have this notion that I don’t care how terrible I look, if I have on lipstick I feel like this:

Beyonce serving

I don’t care if I wake up 20 minutes before class and all I have time to do is wash my face, brush my teeth and make negatives positive, I am “gone with the wind fabulous” if I have on some lipstick. #DontDoMe

This is my justification for any lipstick that I buy, especially the MAC ones that leave dents the size of the grand canyon in my pocket (I only have two). However, Wet n Wild is about that life. Wet n Wild MegaLast Lipstick colors are only $1.99 and are (dare I say it) almost MAC quality. Listen. I put one of these lipsticks on in the morning, had an egg sandwich for breakfast, coffee to wake my tired ass up, and a chicken burger with fries to calm the demon in my belly that ferociously uprises at 2 p.m. In all three of these cases I saw where some lipstick came off, but at the end of the day around 5 p.m., lipstick was still on my lips. How ’bout that?

I purchased them from drugstore.com and the colours of the lipsticks in the photo below are (L-R): Sugar Plum Fairy, Stop Light Red, Mauve Outta Here, and Cherry Bomb. You do not have to offer your kidney to buy makeup because there are a lot of brands like Wet n Wild that offer good quality makeup #onthecheap.

I also like e.l.f. Cosmetics because they too provide good makeup for awesome prices. I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about primers, but I’ve been using the e.l.f. Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer ever since I started priming my face. There is probably a product out there that is a million times better, but for $6 I’m rocking with it for now.

I was also feeling a little “blushy” and I grew tired tired of the same two blushes I wear all the time. I’m not that adventurous with blush. I’ll wear blue lipstick, but I refuse to buy blushes that are lighter than a rosy pink. I just don’t think Barbie face will work for me. So I picked up the e.l.f. Studio Blush in Blush Rose (sorry I forgot to swatch). For $3, I wasn’t even expecting this thing to show up on my face, but this blush is very pigmented. It doesn’t last as long as the brand that begins with an M and ends with a C, but I think it is beautiful.

Okay. My silly behind was spending $12 (or however much it is) on a MAC eyebrow pencil before I watched one of those eyebrow tutorial videos on YouTube. Homegirl was using a good ole $3.09 costing Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil on her eyebrows and here I was wasting my money on an eyebrow pencil that doesn’t even last that long. I regained sense and bought the Rimmel pencil, but the problem is that I bought dark brown. Apparently dark brown doesn’t mean dark brown anymore because  that shit had me looking all light in the eyebrows. As far as quality goes, it’s perfect. It glides on very easily, but the formula of the pencil gives you just the right amount of friction you need. That’s one thing I didn’t like about the MAC pencil: it was too smooth so I couldn’t control it as much.

I also picked up some of that damn Ben Nye powder in the colours banana and topaz (that every body and their mamas are talking about), but we’re gonna discuss those a little later (perhaps after I figure out how to use them) #blend.

Much love,

Brittany

Jewelry Worthy of Double Take

unique jewelry

As I was doing my weekly check of blogs I love, I happened to come across a cross necklace that Shirley from meek-n-mild.com bought from TopShop that is apart of their collection designed for the different star signs, Taurus, Capricorn, and Virgo. I went looking for a scorpio necklace and found some necklaces on maxandchloe.com that fit the description. Yes boo, I thought.

However, my attention soon drifted to a bracelet that featured handcuffs (2) and I murmured to myself, “Will people think I’m in bondage if I wear these…like I’m mentally enslaved or some ish?…or maybe they might think I’m into S&M.” I just got a weird feeling. I love them though and they are a way cheaper than this expensive ass Stella McCartney version.

Then I came a cross ring with a nail on it?…or maybe a nail that was bent into a ring (4). It doesn’t matter because it’s ridiculously awesome and I wanted it immediately. After I stopped obsessing about about the nail ring/ring nail, I discovered the two zipper bracelets (1) and (3). Yes, please, and thank you.

What I like about these pieces is that they are so unique or maybe I’m on sites like forever21.com too often? I spend a considerable about time on youtube.com watching haul videos and sometimes I feel like I’m seeing the same kinds of jewelry over and over again. Trust me, if I like something I see on someone enough, I will buy it. I’m not saying that people should not buy the same things, but I just feel like some people just buy what they see others buy…and it’s not inspiring.

I’m sure others have made pieces like this before, but I’ve never seen them and it’s a breath of crisp, fashion air. The only draw back is that some of these pieces are for $30.00. For me, that’s expensive, but I guess that’s the price you pay to be a little unique? Sigh. I need to start thrifting.

I’ll be sharing some of my thoughts on the 2013 Golden Globe red carpet dresses on Wednesday. Stay tuned.

Until Next time,

Chunky Heels are My Weakness

PLEATED CUT-OUT PLATFORMS

Thank God it’s Friday. I just got back to Minnesota two days ago because school opens back up on Monday. Sigh. I almost missed my flight though because somehow I thought it was booked later than it actually was. My mother had been harassing me to check and see the specific date I was leaving and when I checked, I saw that I’d be leaving the following day. #ThankGodForMother.

Anyway, I have some new shoes to show you. I got a thang for chunky heels so I purchased these Pleated Cut-Out Platform shoes from gojane.com. They also come in black and mint green and I actually bought the mint green last summer, but that version of the shoe did not have pleats (click here to see the outfit I wore with them). They’re definitely not winter friendly (at least not Minnesota winter), but I did not want to wait because the mint green version of these are among my closet faves and of course they won’t be there when the weather is more appropriate. Besides, when parties roll around, it’s amazing the things I’ll wear, and the cold I’ll endure, just too look good.

I know that for some people these shoes are a lot to take in, but I’m extra like that 🙂 Meanwhile, I’m in the process of editing my senior thesis…#LordHelpMe

I Finally Got My Purple Lipstick

IMG_5464
Happy hump day good people. So I finally got my purple lipstick from Sephora. Last year, I went into the store looking for eyeliner and I glimpsed a beautiful purple lipstick by Make Up Forever. I thought I saw raw gold because I’d been looking for a purple lipstick for a while and in my pursuits, all that I’d found were either lavender or plum. No. I wanted purple.

Of course, after offering my arm to pay for the eyeliner, I had no money to pay for the lipstick. However, when I went Black Friday  shopping (not that it was on sale), I bought it, only to come home and find that I’d picked up a bright orange lipstick instead. Sigh. Anyway, it is in my custody and any decisions to be made regarding it will be lead my me. 🙂

I also sampled the Make Up Forever HD Foundation and took the very deep plunge and purchased it. My only hangup is that I couldn’t remember the shade of the sample I tried, and the shade I bought (177) does not look as good. I think I’m going to mix it with my Revlon Colorstay in the shade Caramel to make it a little warmer.

I also picked up two nails polishes, Revlon “Ocean” (swatch here) and “Facets of Fuschia” (right). I also decided to re-up on some facial wipes, Neutrogena Facewash, and Proactiv (that was sent to me because I forgot to cancel my account).

Until Next Time,

Brittany

Cat Eyes and Lana del Rey Nails

IMG_0924

The truth is, I can’t stand acrylic nails for more than two weeks, but every Christmas for the past 4 years, I’ve gotten my nails done. I’ve fallen in love with the stiletto nail trend that has taken the fashion world by storm, catapulted by the likes of Lady Gaga and Rihanna. This year (or last year I should say), I decided to go with nails inspired by Lana del Rey. Naturally, for me at least, I also decided to snap some photos similar to the photo I was inspired by.

If you didn’t know, I have a love affair with leopard print that I don’t see ever going away, hence the scarf and the shell earrings, which were featured in a blog post a while ago, give me life support. Lastly, the cat eye glasses I’m wearing in the last photo are my new favorite thing. I love them so much!

I had fun taking these pictures 🙂

Until next time, Brittany

Under $50 | Beaded Collar Necklaces

Beaded Collar Necklaces Under $50

I am here for this beaded collar necklace trend that has emerged in the fashion world as one could guess from my latest haul video on my youtube channel. Some of these necklaces can be really expensive, but you don’t have to break the bank to look fly and expensive #atthesamedamntime. Here some collar necklaces that are all under $50.

From top left to top right (sorry I forgot to number them).

  1. Sparkling Faux Stone Necklace from forever21.com – $19.80
  2. Multi-Strand Dangle Necklace from lastcall.com – $47.60 originally $95.00
  3. Bejeweled Bib Necklace from forever21.com also available in black, white, and mint green – $13.50
  4. Bejeweled Bib Necklace from forever21.com – $8.80
  5. Multi Stone Chain Necklace from piperlime.gap.com – $28.00

See, you don’t have to spend that much at all!

How Would I Style Them?

These pieces are pretty dressy, but they can dressed up or down. For example, I would wear the necklaces that feature rhinestones (1,4,5) to dressy events like church, a banquet, ball, or wedding. I may pair the other two with a peplum top and a pencil skirt or a plain dress.

These are statement pieces, meaning that they are meant to be the focal point of your outfit. I would shy away from prints (at least in terms of what is worn on top) if I were to wear these types of necklaces lest I be #dointhemost. It may be tempting to pair one of these necklaces with earrings that dangle, but its better to keep it simple on the ears and wear your hair up and out of the way. This way the necklace can shine. 🙂

Also, when buying necklaces like these, you may want to pay attention to the cut of the neck on the dress/shirt you want to pair it with. Round necklaces tend to look better with round cuts, and necklaces that form an apex tend to look better with v-necks.

In any event, you’ll draw attention with either one of these pieces. A wise person once said, people are going to stare anyway so you might as well give them something to look at.

Much love,
Brittany

2012 Reflection

This Week in Lust | Christian Louboutin and Candy

This Week in Lust | Christian Louboutin and Candy

Happy Monday! or angry Monday for those of you who have to work (I feel you). I didn’t do a “This Week in Lust” post last week, so I’m making up for it today. Take a break from writing your 2013 resolutions and have a look at the are the insanely priced items I have chosen for this week.

  1. Black and Cream Graphic Dress by Sonia Rykiel from shoplesnouvelles.com – I wish this dress was black and white because  the color cream always comes off as dingy to me *shrug*. Nevertheless, I love that it’s mod inspired and the assorted black stripes (especially at the top) are forgiving for heavy chested ones among us :). I love the “Paris” and “London” writing because they say “I’m fashionable”, but I don’t think the picture does this dress justice (see Rome Lanvin dress on mannequin vs Rome Lanvin dress on Kim K).
  2. Vanish Shades from nastygal.com – Remember Dwayne Wayne from the sitcom A Different World who rocked the round frame shades? #throwback. I feel like him (and Beyonce) when I thrown on my round frames.
  3. Christian Louboutin V-neck Patent Leather Pumps from net-a-porter.com – I don’t really see how this shoe could ever go wrong. It’s a modern day Mary Jane with a red bottom that is associated with Mr. Louboutin. Say it with me “long heels, red bottoms!”
  4. Chanel Vintage Logo Earrings from farfetch.com – These earrings are legit vintage from a company that tracks down designers, celebrities etc. and buys items from them. Chanel earrings can never be anything less than classic and classy, two words that can also describe the woman who made them household items for many, Coco Chanel.
  5. Prada Candy Perfume from macys.com – If you read my review of Madonna’s Truth or Dare Perfume, you would have seen me run on about how much I love perfume with vanilla notes in it. Released in August 2011, Candy also features notes of musk, and benzoin, but it also features caramel as its base note, which adds warmth and literally makes it smell like candy. 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Smell Goods | Madonna “Truth or Dare” Fragrance Review

Madonna Truth or Dare Perfume
Selon moi, the finishing touch on an outfit is always a dash of perfume. Even if I’m wearing sweats, with my hair tied, going on a Grocery Store run, I like to smell nice. Earlier this year, I went into Macy’s and sampled Truth or Dare by Madonna, and I’ll admit that I did not really like it at first. However, when I brought the tester home with the fragrance on it, let it sit in my armoire for a while, and smelled it later, I fell in love.

I think the scent is says I’m feminine and a bit girly, but I’m also a grown ass woman. I love finding out about scents and the specific ingredients in them that draw me in. Before I get into this, here’s a little background information about perfumery that may be useful.

The top note of a perfume is what you smell just when you apply a perfume. Top notes are composed of small, light molecules that evaporate quickly and form initial impression of a perfume. [+]

The middle note is the scent of a perfume that you smell just before the top notes dissipate. It forms the main body of the perfume and  mask the often unpleasant initial impression of base notes. [+]

The base note emerges close to the departure of the middle notes, and with form the main theme of a perfume along with the middle notes. Base notes bring depth and solidity to a perfume and are usually not noticed until 30 minutes after the application of the perfume or during the period of perfume dry-down. [+]

In this perfume…

the top notes are gardenia, tuberose, and neroli…,

the middle notes are jasmine, benzoin tears, and white lilly petals, and…

the base notes are vanilla, amber, and musk.

As you can see, the top notes are overwhelmingly white floral and sweet, and the jasmine dominates the middle note  Even though I absolutely love floral scents, it is the vanilla, amber and musk notes that I love in Truth or Dare. This is when the perfume turns into “I want to do something that I’ll regret in the morning”. Some of my favorite fragrances have a vanilla and musk base notes like Lola by Marc Jacobs, J’adore by Dior, Tresor by Lancome, Daisy by Marc Jacobs, Dot by Marc Jacobs, Pulse by Beyonce, Reb’l Fleur by Rih Rih, and Viva la Juicy by Juicy Couture (which also has amber).

As far as the bottle goes, I’m not immediately drawn to it. I’m usually drawn to bottles like those of Marc Jacobs perfumes, but I’ve never seen a bottle like it in my mere 21 years on this earth, so I guess it’s fine. But…if I come across across a fragrance that I like, I will definitely buy it if the bottle is purty. 🙂

To me, this fragrance is a classic and is a nice addition to my perfume collection. I love it and the best part about this scent is that it lasts very long. It’s because it lasted so long (I’m talking days) that I was able to smell the base notes and fall in love with it. Some perfumes don’t even last long enough for you even smell the base note! I’ve only repurchased one perfume in my life, White Diamonds, by Elizabeth Taylor , but it looks like I’ll be repurchasing this when it’s finished.

❤ Brittany

p.s. I told my mom about this when I purchased it and when she picked me up from the airport last week, she had it on. She didn’t even have to tell me what fragrance it was.
