This Week in Lust | Christian Louboutin and Candy

This Week in Lust | Christian Louboutin and Candy

Happy Monday! or angry Monday for those of you who have to work (I feel you). I didn’t do a “This Week in Lust” post last week, so I’m making up for it today. Take a break from writing your 2013 resolutions and have a look at the are the insanely priced items I have chosen for this week.

  1. Black and Cream Graphic Dress by Sonia Rykiel from shoplesnouvelles.com – I wish this dress was black and white because  the color cream always comes off as dingy to me *shrug*. Nevertheless, I love that it’s mod inspired and the assorted black stripes (especially at the top) are forgiving for heavy chested ones among us :). I love the “Paris” and “London” writing because they say “I’m fashionable”, but I don’t think the picture does this dress justice (see Rome Lanvin dress on mannequin vs Rome Lanvin dress on Kim K).
  2. Vanish Shades from nastygal.com – Remember Dwayne Wayne from the sitcom A Different World who rocked the round frame shades? #throwback. I feel like him (and Beyonce) when I thrown on my round frames.
  3. Christian Louboutin V-neck Patent Leather Pumps from net-a-porter.com – I don’t really see how this shoe could ever go wrong. It’s a modern day Mary Jane with a red bottom that is associated with Mr. Louboutin. Say it with me “long heels, red bottoms!”
  4. Chanel Vintage Logo Earrings from farfetch.com – These earrings are legit vintage from a company that tracks down designers, celebrities etc. and buys items from them. Chanel earrings can never be anything less than classic and classy, two words that can also describe the woman who made them household items for many, Coco Chanel.
  5. Prada Candy Perfume from macys.com – If you read my review of Madonna’s Truth or Dare Perfume, you would have seen me run on about how much I love perfume with vanilla notes in it. Released in August 2011, Candy also features notes of musk, and benzoin, but it also features caramel as its base note, which adds warmth and literally makes it smell like candy. 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Smell Goods | Madonna “Truth or Dare” Fragrance Review

Madonna Truth or Dare Perfume
Selon moi, the finishing touch on an outfit is always a dash of perfume. Even if I’m wearing sweats, with my hair tied, going on a Grocery Store run, I like to smell nice. Earlier this year, I went into Macy’s and sampled Truth or Dare by Madonna, and I’ll admit that I did not really like it at first. However, when I brought the tester home with the fragrance on it, let it sit in my armoire for a while, and smelled it later, I fell in love.

I think the scent is says I’m feminine and a bit girly, but I’m also a grown ass woman. I love finding out about scents and the specific ingredients in them that draw me in. Before I get into this, here’s a little background information about perfumery that may be useful.

The top note of a perfume is what you smell just when you apply a perfume. Top notes are composed of small, light molecules that evaporate quickly and form initial impression of a perfume. [+]

The middle note is the scent of a perfume that you smell just before the top notes dissipate. It forms the main body of the perfume and  mask the often unpleasant initial impression of base notes. [+]

The base note emerges close to the departure of the middle notes, and with form the main theme of a perfume along with the middle notes. Base notes bring depth and solidity to a perfume and are usually not noticed until 30 minutes after the application of the perfume or during the period of perfume dry-down. [+]

In this perfume…

the top notes are gardenia, tuberose, and neroli…,

the middle notes are jasmine, benzoin tears, and white lilly petals, and…

the base notes are vanilla, amber, and musk.

As you can see, the top notes are overwhelmingly white floral and sweet, and the jasmine dominates the middle note  Even though I absolutely love floral scents, it is the vanilla, amber and musk notes that I love in Truth or Dare. This is when the perfume turns into “I want to do something that I’ll regret in the morning”. Some of my favorite fragrances have a vanilla and musk base notes like Lola by Marc Jacobs, J’adore by Dior, Tresor by Lancome, Daisy by Marc Jacobs, Dot by Marc Jacobs, Pulse by Beyonce, Reb’l Fleur by Rih Rih, and Viva la Juicy by Juicy Couture (which also has amber).

As far as the bottle goes, I’m not immediately drawn to it. I’m usually drawn to bottles like those of Marc Jacobs perfumes, but I’ve never seen a bottle like it in my mere 21 years on this earth, so I guess it’s fine. But…if I come across across a fragrance that I like, I will definitely buy it if the bottle is purty. 🙂

To me, this fragrance is a classic and is a nice addition to my perfume collection. I love it and the best part about this scent is that it lasts very long. It’s because it lasted so long (I’m talking days) that I was able to smell the base notes and fall in love with it. Some perfumes don’t even last long enough for you even smell the base note! I’ve only repurchased one perfume in my life, White Diamonds, by Elizabeth Taylor , but it looks like I’ll be repurchasing this when it’s finished.

❤ Brittany

p.s. I told my mom about this when I purchased it and when she picked me up from the airport last week, she had it on. She didn’t even have to tell me what fragrance it was.

Merry Christmas From Me and My Family

IMG_0873

Merry Christmas everyone! I pray that all of you are enjoying the season. In these photos are some of the lovely ladies in my family. In the second photo is my cousin Symonne, in the fourth is her mother, my aunt Agatha, in the fifth is my mother, Cleola, and in the sixth is also my mother.

We were on our way to church and, before we left, we had an impromptu photo shoot in front of our Christmas tree that my mother decorated.

The dress I wore was purchased from a local store here in The Bahamas and if you would like to know how I created the hairstyle I wore click here to be transported to the tutorial.

I am so happy to be home with my loved ones for the season.

This Week in Lust | All Black Everything

This Week in Lust: All Black Everything

Happy Friday everyone! I pray everyone is enjoying the holidays. I’m off from school and even though I have not cracked a book yet to edit my senior thesis *sigh*, I do not feel one bit guilty. Here are the items that I am currently lusting and just in case you’re new to my blog, these pieces are supposed to be out of my price range so that I can actually lust for them…make sense?

  1. Lacey Leather Look Mix Dress from topshop.com – If you watched my last haul video on my youtube channel, you would have seen a bunch of leather items. 🙂 I am absolutely here for this leather trend and my next outfit post will feature a leather item (stay tuned).
  2. Givenchy Medium Antigona Duffel Bag from bergdorfgoodman.com – This bag is very simple, but the shine gives it a lil sum sum and it can add a touch of flair to your outfit. Plus it’s Givenchy. #win
  3. Ray Ban Clubmaster Sunglasses from ray-ban.com. I’ve always wanted a pair  of Ray Bans, but never thought it was necessary to shell out this kind of money when one is without a 9 to 5. I’ll look for a cheaper pair, but until then…#lusting
  4. L.A.M.B Oxley Pumps from macys.com – Two words: Chic. Classy. If you didn’t know, L.A.M.B. is owned by Gwen Stefani, a woman who does not age, and what I like about these shoes is that the ankle straps are secured via velcro, so they are adjustable. Also, the front section of this shoe does not fully cover your foot and it creates a very different look when worn. Probably not the most comfortable, but I like it…very Zaraesque.

Do you like any of the items?

Burst of Gold

IMG_0856_2

Yesterday, I arrived in The Bahamas, the land flowing with milk and honey (or sun, sand, and sea). I’m so happy to have made it home safely and my mom cooked curry chicken just for me. 🙂

I wanted to show you guys some jewelry that I bought a while back. I know everybody and their mamas have a collar necklace, and I am a day late and a dollar short, but I finally bought one and I don’t mind following trends as long as I actually like it. I bought it from H&M and featured it in my last outfit post because I think it is tres chic and adds a touch of class to almost anything (similar item at Macy’s). The other necklace is from Forever 21, and the shell earrings are from H&M. I love these earrings! I would not typically wear shell earrings, but they are gold and big, and being the over the top individual that I am, I feel like they were made for me. Not to mention, big earrings like these Versace inspired earrings are en vogue. Comment below if you like!

Shoe Profile: Wedge Combo Boots

Untitled #18

This past Friday, I was deeply saddened by tragic events that occurred in both Connecticut and China. I urge you all to keep those cities, those schools, those families, and everyone affected in your prayers. Also, the daughter of one of my religion teachers in high school passed away early Sunday morning as a result of a car accident. If  anything that was reiterated to me this weekend, it is that tomorrow is promised to nobody. Cherish your life and live it meaningfully.

With that being said, I have five papers that are due by Wednesday. Sigh. Because I’m leaving to go home to The Bahamas on Tuesday, I’m trying to hand them all in today. Additionally, I have a Shakespeare exam. Who gives Shakespeare exams?

Before you go feeling all sorry for me, look at the boots in the photo above. These are the shoes that were featured in my latest outfit post and they are still available at gojane.com. I just love how they feature both faux suede and leather, a trend I’m certainly into right now. They are super comfortable, easy to walk in, and have become my go to knee-high boots.

Waffle Knit and Wedges

pinkpants2 Well hello there! So nice of you to join me. When I wore this sweater, it was 30 degrees outside. I had a white tee-shirt on underneath it, but would you believe me if I told you I was warm? Only in Minnesota would one ever consider oneself warm in 30 degree weather. Anyway, this is a pretty simple outfit, something I would wear to class (sans necklace and makeup). The boots are very  comfortable, I’m talking wear for the whole day comfortable. Comment below if you like and fyi, I have pinterest board where I post all my recent purchases. This Week in Lust | Leopards and Tigers

This week in lust
Coming to you live from my bed, here are this week’s items that are giving me life support. 🙂
  1. Tiger Pull-Over from smoooothclothing.com – Close your eyes, imagine that sweater with a thick black legging/leather leggings, some bad azz black ankle boots, and some chunky gold accessories…ooooweee!
  2. Charlotte Olympia Polly Leopard Pump from neimanmarcus.com – Listen, I feel like Charlotte Olympia shoes snatch wigs from the top of Christian Louboutin’s head. I don’t who invented the island platform, but I have come to associate it with her shoes and I think it’s absolutely gorgeous! Beyonce has been seen taking a stroll with Blue Ivy wearing her “cat faced leopard flats” and, as a leopard print fanatic, I couldn’t be any more elated.
  3. Beat Bracelet from boticca.com – Ain’t that cute? As I like to say, I have a certain insatiable lust for life, so I believe this is fitting for me.
  4. Cut Out Leopard Oxfords from forever21.com – I have never seen anything like these shoes before. I’m still staring at them.
  5. Miayet – Pleated hand-woven shorts from net-a-porter.com – The holidays are the time for bright shorts and the fabric these shorts are made of were hand-crafted in India. Fancy *pinkies up*. Lastly, I love the tailoring because it probably will make the pant fit better and of course, it adds some flair.

That’s all folks!

Designer Look for Less: Valentino Slingback Dupe

Valentino slingbacks

Sole Society is quickly becoming one of my favorite online shoe stores! I’ve been seeing the Valentino Slingback for a while now in the fashion blogosphere and Style Pantry, one of my favorite fashion bloggers, wore them recently in a featured outfit. The story: I was checking my e-mail last week and I get a  ton of e-mails from various stores persuading me to spend my last dime on whatever it is they’re selling. Anyway, I was browsing Sole Society’s selection and came across the “Margie Stud Pump” (photo above: bottom), which as you can see, resembles the Valentino Slingbacks (photo above: top).

As a semi-broke college student, I’m all for designer looks for less and good God, I love a well-crafted dupe! A lot of times, companies remake designer shoes, and a lot of times, they look cheap. No bueno. These shoes, which come in black, red, and citron, and go for $49.95, a far cry away from the Valentino’s which range from $895.00 to $1,295.00. Yikes!

If you happen to want to see/purchase the Valentino’s they come in variety of colours and styles.

1. All black with rhinestones from Neiman Marcus

2. All black patent from Saks Fifth Avenue

3. All Nude from Saks Fifth Avenue

4. Black and nude from Saks Fifth Avenue

5. Red and nude from Valentino.com

6. Black patent and nude from Valentino.com

7. Pink patent and nude from net-a-porter.com

Okay I’ll stop there 🙂 because I could go on and on.

Enjoy the day!

❤ Brittany

BASS Approved: Rosario Dawson in Calvin Klein

"Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations" Costume Institute Gala

Forget moment of silence, I’m going to need you to hold your breathe in honour of this leather dress Rosario Dawson is wearing. This photo was taken a very, very long time ago at the Met Gala back in May of this year. However, I do BASS approved posts whenever I see something that makes me smile.

The Story: I was on Pinterest, you know just pinnin’ n shyt, when this dress appeared on my dashboard and a literally shrieked (If my reaction isn’t audible, I don’t post the outfit.) This leather trend that’s been going on for sometime now is really doing if for me because I think leather is classy, and timeless. No? *Karl Lagerfield voice*

Her dress is by Calvin Klein, and I just love the way it has a defined waistline, created by the band (and the fact that Rosario’s body is bangin’). Also, the tailoring is perfect and even though the dress is pretty simple, I think the seams add a little touch of character to it. The flare at the bottom is what gives this dress its “elegance factor” that it would not have without it. The collar of the dress also draws attention to her face, which is very natural looking.

Her hair and accessories are minimal, and I like this because leather can be a overpowering and if classy is the look you’re going for, then simple, chic buns never fail. The only pop of colour we get is the gorgeous blue earrings she’s wearing by Fred Leighton.

I love this look! Do you?

Brittany
